Product Overview

Clinicians have been searching for ways to maintain the essential functions of circulation, gas exchange, and metabolism for critically ill patients since Hippocrates. The increased understanding of tissue consumption of oxygen, as well as carbon dioxide production, have provided the basis for a significant amount of critical care research in sepsis and other hypoxic injury states. By the end of this program, the participant will be able to •  Define the components of CO2 and discuss how they relate to lung function. •  Identify factors that increase CO2 production. •  Review the concepts of oxygen consumption, oxygen delivery, and oxyhemoglobin disassociation. •  Discuss disorders that influence oxyhemoglobin dissociation, oxygen delivery, and tissue metabolism. •  Explain the factors that evaluate adequacy of blood flow and nutritional support.
