Product Overview

Pleural drainage systems are used to drain fluid, blood, or air from the pleural cavity and to reestablish a negative pressure that facilitates expansion of the lungs. Care of these devices can be complex. The presenter for this program is Terri Campana, Critical Care Nurse specialist at Underwood-Memorial Hospital In Woodbury, New Jersey. By the end of this program, the participants should be able to 1. Describe the basic physiology of chest tubes and pleural vacuum. 2. List the basic equipment associated with chest drainage systems. 3. Describe the aspects of "normal operation/expectations" for chest drainage systems. 4. Recognize and troubleshoot common problems, such as disconnection, blockage, and leakage.
